With school back in session, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Midland is looking for new mentors who will spend one hour a week with a "little."

Through the school-based mentoring program, "bigs" visit their "little" during the school day on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Last year the program partnered with five companies -- Midland ISD, West Texas National Bank, Community National Bank, Basic Energy Services and Preferred Personnel Service -- that allowed employees to volunteer one hour a week and without losing pay.

The program gained 12 volunteers through this initiative, but Executive Director Kay Crites said that isn't enough to meet the demand.

At any given time, there are about 100 students waiting to be matched with a big, she said.
